It is now one of the greatest arguments in the martial arts. Traditional martial artists say that Mixed Martial Arts are not true martial arts or call it a “black eye” to the “real” martial arts. Mixed martial artists say traditional martial arts are outdated and useless martial arts in today’s world. Traditionalists say mixed martial artists are arrogant and only out for the money and mixed martial artists say traditionalists are stubborn and closed minded. In truth, they are simply looking straight at themselves in the mirror. It is arrogant for traditionalist to feel that their way is the only way and it is stubborn for mixed martial artists to think the old ways are not useful to what they do. Can’t we all just get along???? Because all of this arguing is giving a “black eye” to everyone involved and this argument is truly outdated and useless! On top of that, there are a lot of “traditional” schools who are out for the money and forgetting our purpose which is to better our students. Yes, I recognize though we do have to keep the lights on and have a space to train but when the dollar is our only goal then we missed the big picture! This is another subject to cover later…let’s get back to the subject at hand.
First of all, all martial arts are in some form “Mixed Martial Arts”! There is not a style that exists today that was created from scratch without any influence from any other existing style.
